Thirty years of hard work, thirty years of blossoming. As a "window" and "experimental field" of reform and opening up, Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, at the age of 30, has developed from a poor border town with a backward economy and impoverished people into a modern, garden-style coastal city of considerable scale. Over 30 years, a series of major political, economic, social, cultural, and livelihood events have taken place in Zhuhai; over 30 years, a large number of people who are daring, hardworking, full of ideals, and innovative have emerged in Zhuhai.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, Zhuhai Special Zone Newspaper and Zhuhai Radio and Television Station jointly held a selection event of "30 Major Events and 30 Outstanding Figures in the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Zhuhai Special Economic Zone." This event has received great attention and support from the public. On August 10, once the candidate events and figures were announced by the media, citizens immediately responded and actively participated.
To ensure the fairness and impartiality of the selection results, the organizers comprehensively considered the voting results from the public through online, mobile phone text messages, and telephone voice voting, widely solicited the opinions of experts and scholars, and fully considered the typicality, representativeness, and wide range of candidate events and figures. As a result, "The Birth of Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, One of China's Earliest Special Economic Zones" and other 30 major events, as well as 10 entrepreneurial figures including Wang Donglei and Shou Weichun, 10 innovative figures including Shi Yuzhu, and 10 model figures including Deng Wanlong were selected.
